
Sometimes need to hide or remove the identity of the editor while still giving the sign of the changes made. This feature has been available since Word 2003. If done, this procedure will show the changes and comments by the anonymous name "Author".
Word 2003
1. Select
Tools> Options menu. Select the
Security tab.
2. Check the
"Remove personal information from file properties on save".
3. Save the
document.
4. To restore
the settings so that the editor's name remains listed, repeat from step number
1 and remove the check mark in step number 2.
Word 2007
1. Click the
Office Button> Prepare> Inspect Document.
2. Check the
"Document Properties and Personal Information". DO
NOT check "Comments, Revisions, Versions, and Annotations" or all the
records the changes will be lost.
3. Press the
Inspect button.
4. Inspection
results will appear with the "Document Properties and Personal
Information" given the exclamation point in front of him. Press the Remove All button. If
the inspection results do not show an exclamation mark, try to close and reopen
the document first before doing step number 1 earlier.
5. Click the
Office Button> Word Options. Select
the Trust Center tab. Click
the "Trust Center Settings ...". Select the tab "Privacy
Options". The
option "Remove personal information from file properties on save"
should be checked if the process has succeeded.
6. Save the
document.
7. To restore
the settings so that the editor's name remains on record, do begin to step
number 5 and remove the check mark on "Remove personal information from
file properties on save".
Updates: For
Word 2003/XP add-ins available (add) additional to remove hidden data such as
data tracking these changes. There
is also software that Doc Scrubber can remove hidden data to the documents
before Word 2007, although it can not be used to remove the name of the editor
of each change.
